Turn Winter Break Reading Homework Into Something to Celebrate
Want your students to keep reading over winter break without sending home another boring reading log?
This Build-a-Snowman Winter Reading Challenge gives students a simple, motivating way to keep reading over break—and gives you a ready-to-go celebration for when they return.
☃️ The Build-a-Snowman Reading Challenge
Students complete 9 reading sections, with each section representing 20 minutes of reading. That’s 3 hours of winter break reading in all.
As students complete each section, they color and assemble their snowman. Choose from two versions:
- A simple version focused on reading time
- A version with fun reading challenges, such as reading to a pet or stuffed animal or reading at night
There’s also a background page for assembling the finished snowman, so you don’t have to deal with floppy snowmen when everyone returns from break.
📚 Reading & Reflection Materials
You’ll also receive:
- Parent letter explaining the winter break reading homework
- Optional reading log
- 4 black-and-white bookmarks
- Reading comprehension and reflection page with space for a summary and “thoughts I had while reading”
